Fundamentals

Cradeling

Cradeling is the single most fundamental skill that all lacrosse players must have.  Cradeling is essential to almost every aspect of the game, but here are the 2 main reasons why we cradel

  1. To protect the ball from defensemen
  2. To allow us to sprint with the ball in our stick

Passing

The Rodeo Pass or Over-the-Shoulder pass is a key lacrosse skill.  National championships have been won by offenses that strategize entirely around this type of passing!

The trick: to pop away from the crease to free your hands and allow yourself that extra second to make a clean pass.

Shooting

Shooting is arguably the most fun part of lacrosse, but it is also 1 of the most technical.  You don't have to be 6'4" 250lbs to be able to shoot hard (although that helps) you only need good technique.  There is nothing more dangerous than a quick shortie who can rocket the ball from anywhere on the field!

Face Offs

In a good lacrosse game, there can be over 30 face offs.  This means that a solid face off middie can be just as valuable as a good goalie.  You can get full NCAA D1 scholarships based entirely on your performance at the X so study up!

The trick: to anticipate the whistle.  Quickness is the key to face off wins.
